What they need
Do you love animals and want to make a difference in their lives every day? Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter (MOAS) is looking for a dependable, hardworking, and positive Kennel Technician to join our team!
Our kennel technicians play an important role in keeping animals safe, healthy, comfortable, and ready for their next chapter. This is a hands-on position that is perfect for someone who enjoys working with animals, takes pride in keeping things clean and organized, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Working in an animal shelter can be physically demanding and emotionally challenging, but it is also incredibly rewarding. If you're ready to work hard, learn new skills, and help animals in need, we'd love to hear from you!
What You'll Do
- Help Animals Find Homes: Assist with meet-and-greets, interact professionally with potential adopters, and help create a welcoming experience for visitors.
- Provide Daily Animal Care: Feed animals, refresh water, clean kennels and litter boxes, and help ensure every animal receives proper daily care and attention.
- Keep Our Shelter Clean: Clean and sanitize kennels, animal housing areas, dishes, litter pans, and other facility spaces according to shelter procedures.
- Monitor Animal Health and Behavior: Watch for changes in appetite, behavior, or physical condition and promptly report concerns to management or veterinary staff.
- Support Animal Health and Safety: Assist with safe animal handling, restraint during examinations or treatments, and other care-related tasks as directed.
- Work as a Team: Work with other staff members in problem solving, event planning, and meet and greets
What We're Looking For
- A positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Dependability, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Comfort working with both dogs and cats of different sizes, ages, and temperaments.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established cleaning, sanitation, and animal-care procedures.
- The ability to work efficiently in a busy environment and handle changing priorities.
- The ability to safely lift and carry 50+ pounds, bend, squat, and reach for items regularly.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
Scheduling Requirements
- Full-time availability.
- Must be available to work one set weekend day each week.
- Some holiday shifts are required. Holiday shifts are typically limited to approximately four hours.
Previous animal-care or kennel experience is helpful, but a willingness to learn, a dependable attitude, and a genuine commitment to animal welfare are essential.
