Key Holder

Madison Modern Market—an independent, design-focused boutique on State Street in Madison, WI—is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated Key Holders to join our small team. This part-time or full-time position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week and flexible availability. Previous retail or hospitality experience is preferred, alongside an interest in growing within a creative, design-oriented retail environment.

Responsibilities Include

• A focus on excellent customer service. Welcome and engage customers, provide personalized recommendations, and share product and vendor knowledge to create memorable shopping experiences.
• Precision with sales and operations. Process sales, returns, and exchanges accurately; maintain familiarity with store systems and procedures; and handle opening, closing, register reconciliation, and daily sales settlement.
• Creative merchandising and inventory management. Receive and prepare new merchandise, replenish stock, maintain organized displays, and uphold store cleanliness standards.
• Strong leadership and initiative. Support daily store operations, guide and train team members, uphold company procedures, and work with management to improve sales, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
• Prioritizing safety. Monitor for theft, follow security procedures, and maintain a safe environment for customers and employees.

Position Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and selling skills, with a hospitable, customer-focused approach.
• Professionalism, integrity, accountability, and respect while representing the store.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage time effectively, multitask, and take initiative.
• Previous leadership experience in retail, hospitality, or customer service strongly preferred.
• Minimum 20 hours of flexible weekday and weekend availability, including mornings and/or evenings (preferred) for opening and closing shifts. Consistent availability before and after major holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas, is required.
• Interest in a long-term position, with a preferred minimum commitment of one year. This is not a seasonal position.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs., and use a step ladder.
• Interest in art and design is a plus.
