About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join the team at Mak and Mak Consulting PLT. This is a full-time position based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our culinary operations, ensuring smooth daily kitchen functions and maintaining the highest standards of food preparation and hygiene. This position is essential to the success of our food service operations and directly contributes to delivering exceptional dining experiences to our guests.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping and portioning vegetables, meats and other food items
• Assisting chefs and cooks with the preparation and assembly of dishes according to established recipes and standards
• Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workspace, including washing dishes, utensils, equipment and work surfaces
• Managing waste disposal and recycling in compliance with food safety regulations and company policies
• Receiving and storing ingredients and supplies in appropriate locations, checking for quality and expiration dates
• Supporting the efficient flow of kitchen operations by responding promptly to requests from senior kitchen staff
• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with inventory management and ordering when required
• Adhering to all food safety and health and hygiene standards, including proper handling of raw and cooked foods
• Operating kitchen equipment safely and responsibly under supervision
• Assisting with the setup and breakdown of kitchen areas before and after service periods

What we're looking for

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant or in a similar food preparation role is highly desirable
• Basic knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen sanitation practices
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment whilst maintaining attention to detail
• Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction from senior kitchen staff
• Physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
• Willingness to learn and develop culinary skills under the guidance of experienced chefs
• Team player mentality with a positive attitude towards supporting colleagues
• Reliability and punctuality with a commitment to maintaining professional standards
• Ability to follow instructions carefully and adhere to established kitchen procedures
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required
