Flexible 4-Hour Daytime Schedule | Monday–Friday | Downtown Durham, NC

First Presbyterian Day School is seeking a dependable and energetic Kitchen Assistant to help prepare and serve nutritious meals for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Since 1970, First Presbyterian Day School has provided a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn, play and grow. We are a full-time, 5-star, nationally accredited childcare center located in downtown Durham.

Schedule

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 16 hours per week.

• Approximately 4 hours per workday
• Flexible scheduling between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM
• Monday through Friday
• On-site in downtown Durham

What You'll Do

• Assist with food preparation and meal assembly
• Slice, chop and portion ingredients according to recipes and menus
• Help ensure meals are prepared and served on time
• Operate kitchen equipment safely
• Follow food-handling, storage and sanitation procedures
• Wash dishes and maintain clean, organized work areas
• Organize kitchen supplies and communicate inventory needs
• Help follow dietary and meal-service guidelines
• Work collaboratively with the Chef and other team members

What We're Looking For

• Dependable, punctual and organized
• Comfortable working in a kitchen environment
• Knowledge of basic food preparation and sanitation practices
• Ability to follow recipes, menus and instructions
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to cleanliness, safety and attention to detail
• Previous food-service, restaurant, school, childcare, dietary or catering experience preferred
• Culinary experience and strong food-preparation skills are a plus
• Serve Safe Certification
• Must be willing and able to successfully complete a background check as a condition of employment

Compensation

$16.00–$17.50 per hour, based on experience.
