Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary

Waikiki Shokudo is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations. The ideal candidate will assist with food preparation, ingredient handling, dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, restocking, and other back-of-house duties while helping maintain food quality, cleanliness, and efficient service.

This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced kitchen environment and wants to develop food-service and culinary skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist kitchen staff with daily food preparation and kitchen tasks
• Wash, peel, cut, portion, and prepare ingredients as directed
• Assist with preparing menu items according to established recipes and procedures
• Measure and organize ingredients and food supplies
• Support cooks and other kitchen team members during busy service periods
• Maintain clean and organized preparation stations and work areas
• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment
• Restock ingredients, food supplies, containers, and kitchen materials
• Receive, organize, and store food deliveries when required
• Label and properly store prepared ingredients and food products
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
• Clean kitchen equipment, counters, floors, and other assigned areas
• Dispose of food waste and other kitchen waste properly
• Report low supplies, damaged equipment, or safety concerns to management
• Assist with opening, closing, and daily kitchen cleanup duties
• Perform additional kitchen responsibilities assigned by management

Requirements

• Previous kitchen, restaurant, food-service, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen procedures is a plus
• Friendly, dependable, and team-oriented attitude
• Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and food safety
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine physical tasks
• Ability to lift, carry, and move moderate loads when required
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Skills

• Previous kitchen assistant, prep cook, or food-service experience
• Basic knife and food-preparation skills
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
• Ability to multitask during busy service periods
• Strong organization and time-management skills
• Ability to maintain a clean and efficient workstation
• Interest in Japanese or Asian cuisine is a plus
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
