Kitchen Assistant – Melrose House Care Home

Melrose House Care Home is looking for a reliable, enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support our busy care‑home kitchen. In this role, you will help with daily food preparation, maintain high standards of cleanliness, and ensure meals are served safely and efficiently. Your attention to detail and positive attitude will contribute to delivering nutritious, enjoyable meals for our residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Food preparation support — Assist with preparing ingredients and assembling meals according to set recipes
• Kitchen cleanliness — Keep workstations, utensils, and equipment clean and well‑organised
• Food safety compliance — Follow hygiene protocols and safe food‑handling practices
• Meal service assistance — Help with serving, clearing, and supporting meal times or special events
• Stock management — Ensure ingredients are stored correctly and assist with basic inventory tasks
• Cooking support — Work under supervision to gain hands‑on experience in kitchen operations
• Team collaboration — Communicate effectively and contribute to a positive working environment

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience in catering or food service preferred but not essential
• Basic kitchen knowledge including food prep and safety
• Ability to follow instructions and work well within a team
• Strong attention to hygiene and cleanliness
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and carry out manual tasks
• A genuine interest in developing culinary skills
• Experience in a fast‑paced food environment is an advantage
