Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary

Americana Restaurant is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen and restaurant operations. The ideal candidate will assist with food preparation, maintain clean and organized kitchen areas, support cooks and other kitchen team members, handle supplies, and help ensure smooth service during busy periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with daily food preparation and kitchen tasks.
• Wash, peel, cut, portion, and prepare ingredients according to established procedures.
• Assist with preparing salads, side dishes, sauces, garnishes, and other menu items as directed.
• Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary food preparation and kitchen areas.
• Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
• Restock ingredients, food supplies, containers, and kitchen equipment as needed.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and kitchen deliveries.
• Label and properly store food items according to restaurant procedures.
• Clean counters, preparation surfaces, floors, sinks, and other assigned kitchen areas.
• Remove trash and maintain proper waste and recycling procedures.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Handle kitchen equipment, cleaning products, and supplies safely.
• Support cooks and other team members during busy service periods.
• Assist with opening, closing, and daily kitchen cleaning duties.
• Perform additional kitchen and restaurant responsibilities assigned by management.

Requirements

• Previous kitchen, restaurant, food-service, or hospitality experience is preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen cleanliness is a plus.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail.
• Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and established procedures.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Ability to work cooperatively with cooks, servers, and other restaurant team members.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform routine physical tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and move moderate loads when required.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Skills

• Previous kitchen assistant, prep cook, dishwasher, or restaurant experience.
• Basic food preparation and ingredient-handling skills.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
