Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary

Ikigai Sushi Bar is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations. The Kitchen Assistant will assist with food preparation, ingredient handling, dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, restocking, and general kitchen support while helping the team maintain efficient service and high standards of cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with daily food preparation
• Wash, peel, cut, portion, and prepare ingredients as directed
• Follow recipes and established food preparation procedures
• Assist with preparing sushi ingredients, sauces, garnishes, and other menu components as assigned
• Handle food ingredients safely and maintain proper storage practices
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment
• Maintain clean and organized preparation stations, counters, sinks, and kitchen areas
• Restock ingredients, containers, utensils, and other kitchen supplies
• Assist with receiving and organizing food and supply deliveries
• Label and store food products according to established procedures
• Help maintain proper food rotation and storage practices
• Remove trash and recycling and maintain clean waste areas
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
• Handle kitchen equipment and cleaning products safely
• Support cooks and other team members during busy service periods
• Assist with opening, closing, and daily kitchen cleaning duties
• Report equipment problems, supply shortages, or safety concerns to management
• Perform other kitchen duties assigned by restaurant management

Requirements

• Previous kitchen, sushi bar, restaurant, or food-service experience is preferred but not required
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen cleanliness
• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and detail
• Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
• Reliable, punctual, and hardworking
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine physical tasks
• Ability to lift, carry, and move kitchen supplies when required

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.0 per week
