Kitchen Assistant

Job Summary

Tal's Cafe is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen and café operations. The ideal candidate will assist with food preparation, ingredient handling, dishwashing, kitchen cleaning, restocking, and other support duties while helping the kitchen team maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing ingredients for menu items according to recipes and kitchen procedures
• Wash, cut, portion, and organize food ingredients as directed
• Assist cooks and kitchen team members with daily food preparation
• Prepare basic menu items and food components under direction from kitchen staff
• Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, pots, and kitchen equipment
• Maintain clean and organized counters, preparation areas, sinks, floors, and workstations
• Restock ingredients, food supplies, packaging, utensils, and other kitchen items
• Assist with receiving, checking, and organizing food deliveries when needed
• Follow proper food storage, labeling, and product rotation procedures
• Remove trash and maintain clean waste and recycling areas
• Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and food preparation surfaces
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures
• Handle cleaning supplies and kitchen equipment safely
• Support the kitchen team during busy service periods
• Assist with opening, closing, and daily cleaning duties
• Report low supplies, damaged equipment, or safety concerns to management
• Perform other kitchen duties assigned by café management

Requirements

• Previous kitchen, café, restaurant, food-service, or hospitality experience preferred but not required
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen procedures
• Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and safety procedures
• Strong attention to cleanliness and organization
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable, punctual, and responsible work ethic
• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine physical kitchen tasks
• Ability to lift, carry, and move moderate loads when required
• Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
