Kitchen Assistant / Cook – Monday to Friday | Daytime Only

£13.50 per hour or more, depending on experience | 6:00am–3:00pm | No evenings or weekends

Mary & Me is looking for an experienced, reliable Kitchen Assistant / Cook to prepare food for our busy sandwich bar and catering operation in a large, spacious commercial kitchen in SE1.

This is a practical role focused on straightforward cooking and batch preparation rather than complex à la carte service. You will often work independently, so you must be organised, dependable and confident managing your own workload. A larger team will be available to support you when needed.

What you’ll do

• Cook bacon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms and other breakfast ingredients in large quantities

• Prepare salads in large batches

• Prepare garnishes and complete daily mise en place

• Bake frozen pastries and cakes according to instructions

• Cook chicken and prepare or replenish salads and other items for the front-of-house team throughout service

• Monitor stock and keep ingredients ready for service

• Follow portion, allergen, food-safety and hygiene procedures

• Complete a significant amount of washing up

• Keep the kitchen, equipment and work areas clean, tidy and organised

• Work independently for long periods while communicating with the wider team when support is needed

What we’re looking for

• Essential: previous experience as a cook, kitchen assistant or in a similar commercial-kitchen role

• Confidence with basic cooking, batch preparation and mise en place

• The ability to organise your workload and work safely on your own

• A reliable, punctual and hardworking approach

• Good standards of cleanliness and food hygiene

• A practical working level of spoken English is essential for understanding instructions and communicating clearly with the team

Hours and pay

• Monday to Friday

• 6:00am–3:00pm

• 45 hours per week

• Permanent, full-time position

• No evenings or weekends

• Pay from £13.50 per hour, with a higher rate possible depending on ability and experience
