Kitchen Cook

Job Summary

Seeking a dependable, organized, and experienced Kitchen Cook to oversee daily food preparation for our childcare and older adult programs. This position is responsible for preparing kosher, nutritious, home-style meals and snacks for children enrolled in our childcare program, as well as preparing and serving lunch for our senior programs. The Cook will also occasionally prepare food for special events. The right person for this position enjoys cooking and takes pride in preparing meals that are nutritious, appealing, and made with care. You should be comfortable managing multiple responsibilities. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is reliable, organized, helpful, safety-conscious, and willing to pitch in wherever needed.

Duties

• Prepare daily meals and snacks for children enrolled in our childcare program.
• Prepare complete lunches for our older adult programs, both on-site meals and meals for delivery.
• Set up and serve food for senior lunches and programs.
• Prepare food for occasional organizational programs, events, and special activities.
• Follow established menus while adapting to menu changes and program needs.
• Ensure all meals and snacks are prepared and ready according to established schedules.
• Prepare nutritious, home-style meals while following program budgets and applicable USDA, licensing, and health department requirements.
• Portion and distribute meals and snacks to childcare classrooms.
• Follow proper food-handling, sanitation, storage, temperature-control, and kitchen safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and organized kitchen.
• Monitor inventory of food, ingredients, kitchen supplies, and paper goods.
• Coordinate ordering and restocking of food and supplies as needed.
• Assist with dishes, kitchen cleanup, and maintaining kitchen equipment and work areas.
• Communicate with program staff for meal counts, schedules, dietary needs, and special programs.
• Be flexible and willing to assist with changing food-service needs throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking or food-service experience required; experience in a childcare, school, senior program, community center, or institutional kitchen is a plus.
• ServSafe certification preferred.
• Knowledge of proper food safety, sanitation, and food-handling practices.
• Comfortable preparing meals in quantity.
• Ability to follow menus, recipes, portion requirements, and meal schedules.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of daily kitchen operations.
• Dependable, flexible, and able to adapt to changing schedules and program needs.
• Ability to work occasional nights or weekends for special programs and events.
• Must meet applicable health, licensing, and background-check requirements.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 25.0 per week
