Kitchen Cook / Sushi Chef Assistant

We are looking for a Kitchen Cook / Sushi Chef Assistant to join our team at Gamsa Sushi, an upscale sushi and omakase restaurant in Rockridge, Oakland.

The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare and cook our appetizers, hot dishes, cold dishes, soups, and other kitchen menu items by following the Chef’s instructions, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook kitchen menu items according to the Chef’s instructions.
• Complete daily prep and mise en place before service.
• Maintain consistency in taste, portion, timing, and presentation.
• Keep ingredients properly stored, labeled, rotated, and organized.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen station throughout service.
• Assist the Sushi Chef with preparation when needed.
• Participate in rotating kitchen cleaning duties with the team.

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant or kitchen cooking experience preferred.
• Japanese or sushi restaurant experience is a plus, but not required.
• Basic knife and food preparation skills.
• Able to follow instructions carefully and work consistently during service.
• Reliable, organized, and team-oriented.
