An exciting opportunity is available for a Kitchenhand to join The Common Good’s café team in North Brisbane.

The Common Good operates social enterprise cafés and catering services, with profits supporting medical research, patient care and hospital innovation at The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.

About the Role

We’re looking for a reliable and hands-on Kitchenhand to support our busy kitchen team.

This is a practical role suited to someone who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, organised and running efficiently.

Your day-to-day duties will include basic food preparation, basic cooking and assisting with the preparation of salads, sandwiches, yoghurts and other café products, as well as maintaining clean and organised kitchen areas.

Key Responsibilities

On any given day, you may be involved in:

• Preparing ingredients and assisting with basic cooking and food production
• Preparing salads, sandwiches, yoghurts and other café items
• Assisting Chefs and the Kitchen Manager with general kitchen tasks
• Following food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
• Washing, cleaning and correctly storing kitchen equipment
• Completing scheduled kitchen cleaning tasks
• Keeping kitchen, cool room, freezer and storage areas clean and organised
• Receiving deliveries and assisting with stock organisation
• Rotating stock using appropriate date and stock rotation procedures
• Managing general waste and recycling appropriately
• Reporting equipment faults, damage or maintenance issues to your manager
• Supporting the wider kitchen team to ensure the café operates efficiently

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience in a café, commercial kitchen or similar environment
• Enjoys practical, hands-on kitchen work
• Is comfortable with basic food preparation and cooking
• Understands the importance of food safety and hygiene
• Has high standards of personal cleanliness and kitchen presentation
• Is organised and able to manage competing tasks in a busy environment
• Works well as part of a team and is willing to assist wherever needed
• Is reliable, punctual and takes pride in their work
• Is willing to learn and develop their kitchen skills
• Can work effectively in a fast-paced café environment

Previous experience as a Kitchenhand is desirable, but we are also open to applicants who have a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in developing their skills in a commercial kitchen.
