Job Summary

Big Red Restaurant & Sports Bar / Big Red Keno is seeking a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Helper to support daily kitchen operations. The ideal candidate will assist with basic food preparation, maintain clean and organized work areas, and help kitchen team members prepare for efficient food service.

This role is suited to someone who works well in a team, follows instructions, and understands the importance of cleanliness, food safety, and timely preparation in a busy restaurant environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist cooks with basic food preparation, including washing, peeling, and cutting ingredients.
• Prepare ingredients and organize supplies before service.
• Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment as needed.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen counters, workstations, and food preparation areas.
• Restock ingredients and kitchen supplies throughout the shift.
• Receive, unpack, label, and store food deliveries according to established procedures.
• Follow food storage, rotation, and temperature-control guidelines.
• Remove trash and keep kitchen and dishwashing areas tidy.
• Support cooks during busy service periods by completing assigned preparation tasks.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
• Communicate supply shortages or equipment concerns to the kitchen supervisor.
• Complete additional kitchen duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
• Ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively with kitchen staff.
• Basic understanding of cleanliness and safe food handling.
• Good time-management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift kitchen supplies when required.
• Previous kitchen, dishwashing, or restaurant experience is helpful but not required.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
