What they need
About Us
Chestnut Hill Brewing Company is an independently owned brewery and restaurant located in Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill neighborhood. We craft small-batch beer and serve wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and creative, plant-forward pub fare with a focus on quality ingredients and sustainable food choices.
We're committed to creating a welcoming experience for our guests and a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace for our team.
The Position
We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Kitchen Operations Manager to lead our back-of-house team and take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our kitchen.
This position requires someone who is both a strong kitchen leader and a strong manager. The ideal candidate knows how to develop and motivate people, build an efficient schedule, manage labor and food costs, maintain high standards for food quality and consistency, and create an organized and positive kitchen environment.
This is a hands-on leadership position. Our Kitchen Manager is expected to be present and actively working with the team during service while providing leadership, direction, and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, train, and develop the BOH team while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
- Create and manage the weekly BOH schedule based on forecasted sales, business needs, and established labor targets
- Monitor labor performance and proactively adjust staffing as business levels change
- Manage food costs through effective inventory management, ordering, portion control, waste reduction, prep management, and recipe adherence
- Lead kitchen operations during service and work alongside the team as needed
- Ensure consistent execution, presentation, portioning, and quality of all menu items
- Manage inventory, ordering, and par levels while minimizing waste and unnecessary purchasing
- Hold team members accountable for performance, attendance, punctuality, cleanliness, and established procedures
- Ensure prep levels and staffing are appropriate for projected business
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and health-code-compliant kitchen
- Collaborate closely with FOH leadership to ensure smooth service and an excellent guest experience
- Communicate effectively with restaurant leadership regarding staffing, costs, operational challenges, and opportunities for improvement
What We're Looking For
- Previous Kitchen Manager or comparable BOH leadership experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment
- Strong people-management skills with experience coaching, developing, and holding employees accountable
- Demonstrated experience creating schedules and managing labor costs
- Strong understanding of food cost, inventory, ordering, waste, portion control, and recipe costing
- Ability to understand and manage restaurant financial and operational metrics
- Strong food preparation, cooking, and kitchen operations knowledge
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation requirements
- Ability to remain calm, organized, and solutions-oriented during busy service
- Willingness to jump in and work alongside the team
- Ability to balance excellent food and hospitality with operational and financial goals
Compensation
$60,000–$65,000 annually, based on experience.
If you're an experienced kitchen leader who enjoys developing people, creating efficient systems, and taking ownership of both food quality and kitchen performance, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
