If you have a knack for cooking, a commitment to food safety, and a love for working in a collaborative environment, we’d love to have you join our team as our Kitchen Manager.

What You'll Do

As the Kitchen Manager, you'll play a vital role in our center by preparing meals and snacks that meet USDA and local state childcare guidelines. Your work will directly support our mission of fostering a family-style food service environment that promotes health and happiness for the children we serve. Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

Food Service Responsibilities:

  • Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily based on USDA guidelines, ensuring meals are nutritionally balanced and delicious.
  • Serve meals in a timely manner, maintaining proper food temperatures and using appropriate serving utensils.
  • Follow approved menus, posting any necessary substitutions that meet nutritional standards.
  • Manage food allergies and restrictions by adhering to Allergy Plans and ensuring appropriate substitutes are served to the correct children.
  • Stock and organize food safely and efficiently, following proper dating and storage procedures.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Minimize food waste while ensuring children receive adequate portions and second helpings, if desired.
  • Collaborate with management on food orders, adhering to budgets and addressing any discrepancies in orders or pricing.

Health & Safety Requirements:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy kitchen environment through regular cleaning and visual checks.
  • Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of food products in compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment, meeting all safety standards.
  • Participate in emergency drills and implement emergency procedures as needed.

Customer Relations:

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with children, families, staff, and approved vendors.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, children, and staff, ensuring everyone feels valued and informed.

General Responsibilities:

  • Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including proper handwashing and food preparation practices.
  • Safely handle knives and other sharp objects, and lift or carry provisions as needed.
  • Complete and maintain all required paperwork and records in an organized and timely manner.

What You Bring to the Table

We’re looking for a Kitchen Manager who is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating a safe and welcoming environment for children. To be successful in this role, you’ll need the following:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
  • Ability to meet state licensing requirements for age and training.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain it).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow recipes, count, record information, and adhere to instructions.
  • Physical ability to stoop, bend, lift, and carry as required by local state regulations.
