What they need
Kitchen Porter – The Royal Oak, Duddington
Who we are
Stephen James Inns – independent places, thoughtful hospitality.
We're a small, independent hospitality group of country pubs (some with bedrooms), wine shops and bars. Being independent means we're not a faceless chain – we know our team by name, we value everyone's ideas, and we care about creating great places to work as much as great places to eat, drink and stay. Our focus is simple: good food, well-kept drinks and warm, thoughtful hospitality for every guest who walks through our doors.
The role
We're looking for a reliable, hard-working Kitchen Porter to join the kitchen team at The Royal Oak in Duddington (PE9 3QE), a country pub with 7 bedrooms. You'll be at the heart of the kitchen, keeping everything clean, organised and running smoothly so our chefs can focus on cooking great food. This could be the start of your kitchen or hospitality career – no experience is needed, as we'll guide and train you, and help you learn new skills along the way.
Part-time and full-time hours available. Hours are flexible with no fixed shift pattern – shifts will vary across the week.
Pay: up to £12.71 per hour, plus tronc.
What you'll be doing
- Washing up pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment, by hand and using the dishwasher
- Keeping the kitchen, workstations, floors and storage areas clean, tidy and organised
- Assisting the chefs with some food preparation, such as peeling and chopping vegetables
- Putting away deliveries and helping with stock rotation
- Emptying bins and managing waste and recycling
- Following food hygiene, health & safety and cleaning procedures
- Supporting the kitchen team to keep service running smoothly
What we're looking for
- A positive attitude and a real willingness to learn – no previous experience needed
- Someone hard-working and reliable, with good timekeeping
- A team player who's happy to muck in and help out wherever needed
- The ability to stay calm and keep on top of things when the kitchen gets busy
- Interest in food and cooking, and a desire to develop your kitchen skills
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including breakfasts, evenings, weekends and bank holidays
What we offer
- Tronc system for excellent tips
- Staff meals when on duty
- Free parking
- Generous staff discounts across our sister sites
- Education and training opportunities to help you develop your career
- Staff parties
- A positive, encouraging working environment
If you're keen to learn and want to be part of a team that takes pride in what it does, apply today – we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: Up to £12.71 per hour
