What they need

Job Overview

We are looking for a friendly and reliable Kitchen Porter Assistant to join our caring and hardworking kitchen team in our care home. This is a key role that helps keep our kitchen running smoothly and ensures our residents enjoy safe, well-prepared meals every day.

As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll support our chefs and kitchen staff by keeping the kitchen clean, organised, and compliant with hygiene standards. You’ll also have the chance to get involved in basic food preparation and baking, making this a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being in the kitchen and wants to learn more.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about food and baking who would like to build experience in a professional kitchen environment. With the right attitude and commitment, there may be opportunities to train and progress into roles such as Assistant Cook over time.

If you’re enthusiastic, enjoy working as part of a team, and take pride in contributing to a warm, caring environment, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Assisting with basic food preparation and baking tasks
  • Clean and sanitise dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment to uphold hygiene standards.
  • Support the organisation of storage areas, ensuring ingredients and supplies are stored correctly.

  • Dispose of waste responsibly and ensure recycling procedures are followed.
  • Support the movement of supplies and ingredients around the kitchen as needed.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines diligently to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a care home, restaurant, hotel, or hospitality setting is advantageous but not essential.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and basic cooking techniques is desirable.
  • Experience working in a busy kitchen environment or with culinary teams is preferred.
  • Strong organisational skills with an eye for cleanliness and detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt within a fast-paced setting.
  • Good communication skills and reliability are essential qualities for success in this role. This position provides valuable experience within the care industry, offering opportunities for professional growth and development in a dynamic environment.
