Kitchen Utility / Prep Assistant – Catering

Overview

Matty’s Catering is looking for a dependable, hardworking Kitchen Utility / Prep Assistant to join our catering kitchen team in New Berlin.

This is a hands-on support position that combines kitchen cleaning, organization, dishwashing, and basic food preparation.

Our kitchen prepares food for weddings, corporate events, banquets, private parties, and other special occasions. We're looking for someone who enjoys staying busy, works well with others, and takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, organized, and ready for production.

Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train the right person.

Responsibilities

• Wash, sanitize, and organize dishes, utensils, pans, and kitchen equipment.
• Maintain clean workstations, floors, sinks, and kitchen storage areas.
• Assist with basic food prep, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Prepare simple catering items such as sandwiches, fruit trays, vegetable trays, and other assigned prep tasks.
• Assist with packaging, labeling, dating, and storing prepared food.
• Help organize walk-in coolers, freezers, and dry storage areas.
• Put away deliveries and rotate products using proper food storage procedures.
• Remove trash, break down boxes, and maintain clean kitchen and disposal areas.
• Assist cooks and chefs with gathering ingredients, supplies, and equipment.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper handling procedures.
• Complete daily cleaning and kitchen reset tasks.
• Help with additional kitchen responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Kitchen, dishwashing, food prep, or restaurant experience preferred but not required.
• Willingness to learn basic food preparation and kitchen procedures.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks independently.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stay organized and pay attention to detail.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and move typical kitchen products and equipment.
• Positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.

Schedule & Compensation

• Full-time and part-time opportunities
• AM and PM shifts based on catering needs
• Weekday and weekend availability preferred
• Schedule may vary depending on event volume
• No traditional late-night restaurant closing shifts
• Compensation based on experience
• Opportunities to learn additional kitchen skills and advance into food preparation or cooking positions

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
