Lab Assistant

About the role

Tastiway Sdn Bhd is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our food technology and safety team on a full-time basis at our facility in Jitra, Kedah. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring the quality and safety of our food products. As a Lab Assistant, you will support our laboratory operations and contribute to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality control. This role is essential to our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality food products to our consumers.

Key responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and sterilisation of laboratory equipment and materials
• Conducting routine laboratory tests and analyses on food samples according to established protocols and standard operating procedures
• Recording and documenting test results accurately and maintaining detailed laboratory records
• Monitoring and maintaining laboratory safety standards and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations
• Supporting quality control processes including sampling, testing and analysis of raw materials and finished products
• Performing maintenance checks on laboratory equipment and reporting any malfunctions or maintenance requirements
• Assisting in the preparation of samples and reagents for testing and analysis
• Collaborating with senior laboratory staff and other departments to resolve quality issues
• Keeping the laboratory clean, organised and free from contamination
• Supporting the implementation of food safety and hygiene protocols across the facility

What we're looking for

• A qualification in Laboratory Science, Food Science, Chemistry or a related field (Diploma or higher)
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in conducting tests and recording data
• Good understanding of food safety principles and laboratory safety practices
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work methodically
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
• Physical capability to perform routine laboratory tasks and stand for extended periods
• Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with laboratory information management systems (preferred)
• Knowledge of food testing methods and microbiological analysis (preferred)
• Previous experience in a food science or quality control laboratory (preferred)
