Duty Station: Project-supported health facilities, Cox’s Bazar District / Teknaf, including hard-to-reach areas

Project Background Partners in Health and Development (PHD) is implementing the MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) project to strengthen maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCH-N) services and health system resilience in fragile and hard-to-reach areas of Cox's Bazar. The project has been working in geographically challenged and hard to reach areas with limited access to timely and quality health services, particularly during adverse weather, sea-related transportation disruptions, and other emergencies. Women and newborns requiring emergency obstetric and neonatal care may face delays in reaching higher-level facilities.

Job Purpose The Lab Assistant/Laboratory Technician will support the provision of accurate, timely, safe and quality-assured laboratory diagnostic services at project-supported health facilities.

The position will be responsible for specimen collection, preparation and processing, performing routine laboratory tests within the scope of qualification, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring appropriate infection prevention and biosafety practices, maintaining quality control and laboratory records, and communicating test results appropriately to authorized clinical staff.

The position will contribute to timely diagnosis and management of maternal, newborn, child and other common health conditions , while supporting emergency, outbreak and referral services.

Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing and Diagnostic Services

• Perform routine laboratory tests according to approved national guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and facility protocols.
• Receive, identify, label and process patient specimens correctly.
• Conduct laboratory investigations within the scope of professional qualification and authorization.
• Perform lab tests such as, where applicable:
• Hemoglobin
• Blood grouping and Rh typing
• Blood glucose
• Urine routine examination
• Stool examination
• Malaria testing
• Pregnancy testing
• HIV/syphilis or other approved rapid tests
• Dengue or other outbreak-related rapid diagnostic tests as authorized

Requirements

• Experience: 2-3 years
• Education: diploma in medical laboratory technology
• Skills: laboratory management, laboratory medicine, laboratory skills, laboratory procedures, laboratory skills (bloodwork, diagnostics), laboratory technicians, laboratory testing, laboratory techniques & procedures, laboratory diagnostics, laboratory regulations
