Serova builds personalized cancer vaccines. Each vaccine is made for the individual patient from their own samples and given in partnership with their treating physician.

The role

Making a vaccine for every patient only works if the lab is heavily automated. We're hiring two automation engineers, one for hardware and one for software. In this role you'll own the software: robot scheduling, instrument control, sample tracking and getting data out of instruments into our systems.

What you'll work on

• Automating patient sample immunomonitoring so it is cheaper and faster
• Automating mRNA-LNP manufacturing and quality control
• Higher-throughput data generation for our immunology work

Who you are

• A software engineer who wants to work with robots and biology
• With tools like Claude Code, anyone can write code now. What matters is understanding how a lab actually works
• High agency, friendly and low ego
• Curious about biology

Requirements

• 2+ years writing production software
• You've programmed lab robots or instruments, or built software that controls physical hardware
• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, or willing to relocate
• Authorized to work in the US, or a realistic path to get there

What will make you stand out

• Liquid handler programming: PyLabRobot, Opentrons API, Hamilton VENUS or similar
• Lab data systems: LIMS, ELN, sample tracking, instrument integrations
• You've built tools scientists use every day
• You've worked at a bench yourself
• Startup experience, Seed to Series B, in a small team
