What they need
The Center of Health and Rehabilitation Research (CoHRR) at New York University is seeking a full-time Lab Manager to work with Dr. Si On Yoon in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at NYU Steinhardt.
The Lab Manager will contribute primarily to an NIH/NIA-funded R01 project, CLEAR (Cognitive-Linguistic Engagement in Aging and Recall), which examines how conversational engagement influences memory in healthy older adults and individuals with mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. The project investigates the cognitive and linguistic mechanisms underlying memory for information encountered during conversation and examines how different communication supports and strategies may help older adults retain important information from everyday interactions.
The Lab Manager will play a central role in the day-to-day coordination and implementation of the project, and will work closely with the PI, research staff, students, and collaborators to ensure that study activities are conducted efficiently and in accordance with established research protocols.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the day-to-day implementation of the research project and supporting the overall operation of the research lab;
- Recruiting, screening, scheduling, and communicating with research participants;
- Coordinating with collaborating clinics, community organizations, and other recruitment partners;
- Preparing for and conducting research study visits in accordance with established protocols;
- Administering behavioral, cognitive, and language-based study procedures;
- Maintaining accurate participant records, study documentation, and regulatory materials;
- Coding, cleaning, managing, and performing quality-control checks on research data;
- Training, scheduling, and supervising undergraduate and graduate research assistants;
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple aspects of a research project simultaneously. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as the position involves frequent interaction with older adults, individuals with cognitive impairment, caregivers, students, clinical collaborators, and community partners.
This is a full-time, in-person position. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.
In compliance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000-$60,000 per year. New York University considers factors including, but not limited to, the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology, linguistics, cognitive science, or a related field;
- Prior experience conducting human-subjects research;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills;
- Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated reliability;
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and work both independently and collaboratively; and
- Experience with research data collection, organization, and management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research experience with older adults and/or individuals with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or other neurological conditions;
- Experience coordinating participant recruitment, screening, and scheduling;
- Experience training or supervising undergraduate research assistants;
- Familiarity with IRB procedures and human-subjects research regulations;
- Experience with research databases, data-entry systems, and research data management;
- Experience with quantitative data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, or similar programs);
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills;
- Experience with eye-tracking and/or EEG/ERP research, including data collection, preprocessing, or analysis, is preferred.
