Lab Technician 1

Reports to:

Foreman – Quality Control

Takes direction often from Lab Technician Level II

Basic Function:

The lab technician is responsible for the testing and inspection of road construction materials, including but not limited to hot mix asphalt (hma) and granular base course (gbc).

The purpose of inspecting and testing of road construction materials is to determine whether or not their characteristics, properties and quality meet or exceed the standards and specifications prescribed by our customers.

Job Duties:

Perform testing in accordance with DOT quality control system

Understanding test methods and procedures.

Analysis of test data and corrective action to prevent non-conforming products.

Documentation and data control.

Care and maintenance of testing equipment.

Purchasing and calibration of testing equipment.

Developing and training for succession.

Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of specialized field, extensive use of computer network and a variety of precision measuring instruments, knowledge of mix design, qc of mix designs.

Physical Demand:

Moderate physical effort required frequently lifting or moving average weight material (over 25 pounds) or occasionally lifting or moving heavy weight materials (over 60 pounds) 40% of time is spent in physical demanding role.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Work under direction where definite objectives are established, plans and arranges work, referring only unusual cases to others.

ERRORS:

Position is first tier for recognizing and preventing errors. Probably errors caused or left undiscovered could be serious involving losses to the company due to rework, waste of material, damage to equipment or loss of client or general public goodwill.
