Lab Technician – Evening Shift

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Lab Technician with 2+ years of commercial, high-throughput laboratory experience to support our growing genomics and sequencing operations.

Our South San Francisco lab processes 1,000–3,500 samples per night, requiring someone who can work efficiently, troubleshoot instrument and protocol issues independently, and maintain high standards of data quality.

The ideal candidate understands the science behind laboratory workflows, thrives in a fast-paced production environment, and can help ensure accurate, timely results for customers, including leading pharmaceutical companies and research scientists.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive courier-delivered samples, log them into the in-house Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and organize them into 96-well plates.
• Perform library preparation using automated liquid-handling systems, including platforms such as Opentrons.
• Load prepared libraries onto sequencing instruments and monitor sequencing runs.
• Perform quality control (QC), investigate failed samples, and repeat sample preparation when necessary.
• Independently troubleshoot instrument malfunctions, protocol issues, and workflow bottlenecks in real time.
• Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory consumables and reagents.
• Identify opportunities to improve laboratory protocols, efficiency, and data quality.
• Collaborate with R&D, Product, and Engineering teams to support continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on commercial or production laboratory experience following completion of a degree.
• Practical experience with DNA extraction, DNA purification, PCR, and/or sequencing workflows.
• Experience processing high volumes of samples in a fast-paced, high-throughput laboratory.
• Strong understanding of laboratory processes and the scientific principles behind them.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot laboratory instruments, protocols, and workflow issues.
• Bachelor's or master's degree, preferably in Biology or a related life sciences field.
• Ability to work on-site in South San Francisco, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM PST.
• Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Important: Academic or research laboratory experience alone does not meet the commercial laboratory experience requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with laboratory automation and liquid-handling systems, such as:
• Opentrons
• Tecan
• Hamilton
• Experience working in a startup or rapidly scaling laboratory environment.
• Experience in high-throughput genomics, sequencing, or sample-processing operations.

Deal-Breaker Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following:

• Commercial or industry laboratory experience in high-volume production or sample processing.
• Hands-on experience with DNA extraction, purification, and PCR in a commercial laboratory.

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
