Lab Technician - Oil Section

Job Purpose

To perform laboratory testing and analysis of petroleum products, lubricants, edible oils, waste oils, and other oil-related samples in accordance with approved test methods, laboratory quality procedures, and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. The Lab Technician is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable analytical results while maintaining laboratory safety and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Sample Management

• Receive, register, label, and verify incoming samples.
• Ensure samples are stored under appropriate conditions before analysis.
• Prepare samples in accordance with relevant testing procedures and standard methods.
• Maintain sample traceability throughout the testing process.

Laboratory Testing

• Perform routine and non-routine laboratory analyses following approved test methods, SOPs, and work instructions.
• Operate laboratory instruments and testing equipment safely and accurately.
• Record all test observations and analytical results promptly and accurately.
• Ensure testing is completed within the required turnaround time.

Equipment Maintenance

• Perform routine equipment checks, calibration verification, and basic maintenance.
• Report equipment malfunctions or abnormalities to the Section Head immediately.
• Maintain equipment usage records and calibration status.

Quality Assurance

• Comply with ISO/IEC 17025 quality management requirements.
• Participate in internal quality control activities, proficiency testing, and method validation where assigned.
• Ensure all laboratory records are complete, accurate, and traceable.
• Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) at all times.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Comply with laboratory safety rules and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Handle chemicals, reagents, and hazardous waste according to established safety procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and assigned work areas.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses promptly.

Documentation

• Complete worksheets, test records, and laboratory documentation accurately.
• Maintain proper filing of laboratory records.
• Assist in preparing reports and supporting documentation when required.

Inventory & Consumables

• Monitor laboratory consumables, chemicals, reagents, and glassware.
• Inform the Lab Manager when stock replenishment is required.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals and laboratory materials.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in laboratory improvement initiatives.
• Attend technical training as required.
• Assist in developing or improving laboratory procedures where applicable.
• Perform other duties assigned by Management that are related to the position.

May occasionally be required to work overtime to meet operational requirements.
