Laboratory Technician

Job Title: Cell Culture Technician/Specimen Handler

Location: Sherman, TX (North Texas). Onsite. Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.

Pay Rate: $24–$28/hour (approximately $50K–$60K annually) plus overtime

Overview

Our client is an established animal genetics and biobanking laboratory serving veterinary, equine, and conservation clients nationwide. They have been in operation for over 20 years and are part of a larger, growing biotech organization. The company has about 35 employees.

They are hiring a full-time Cell Culture Technician to join a small lab team focused on tissue sample processing, cell culture, and cryopreservation. This is a production lab role, not a research position. It is a good fit for someone with 1–2 years of cell culture experience who wants consistent, hands-on bench work.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming tissue samples (primarily skin biopsies, occasionally hair samples) and verify them against the accompanying paperwork
• Process 260+ samples per week using aseptic technique under a biosafety cabinet
• Dissect samples with a scalpel, perform antibiotic washes, and divide each sample into vials using pipettes
• Subculture cells and move samples between incubators based on growth stage
• Prepare media and solutions for lab use and for the sample collection kits sent to veterinarians
• Maintain cryopreserved samples in liquid nitrogen storage, and pull and prepare samples for shipment to partner labs
• Package and ship samples and kits with the required documentation, contracts, and labels
• Record sample data and documentation in Benchling (LIMS) and Excel
• Follow established SOPs and communicate with team members to keep sample processing on schedule
• About 80% of the role is bench work and 20% is documentation, shipping, and administrative tasks
• There is no live animal handling and minimal client contact

Compensation & Perks

• $24–$28/hour, overtime eligible
• Discretionary bonuses have been paid in recent years (not guaranteed)
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
• The lab operates 24/7. Expect a rotating night or weekend shift about once per week.
• Holidays are covered on a rotating basis and paid at time and a half
• Training on company protocols is provided
• Medical (PPO), dental, and vision, eligible after 30 days

• PTO accrues monthly and increases after 3 years
• Opportunity to cross-train in equine reproductive lab techniques (ICSI, sexed semen)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, or a related life science/medical, etc.
• 1–2 years of lab or medical experience
• Proficient in Excel (advanced skills preferred). Benchling or LIMS experience is a plus.
• Experience with liquid nitrogen and cryogenic storage preferred
• Available for rotating night, weekend, and holiday coverage
• Must pass a background check and drug screen
