The Landman I has a basic understanding of land functions and applies established guidelines and procedures while developing professional skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the examination of titles and resolution of routine defects under the direction of more experienced Landmen.
  • Assist in compiling information used in recommendations on farm-ins, farm-outs, and other exploration activities, as well as in maintaining producing leases and co-owner relationships.
  • Prepare and maintain basic land files, maps, spreadsheets, and tracking tools to ensure accurate documentation of land ownership, obligations, and key dates.
  • Draft and route standard correspondence, simple agreements, and internal summaries using approved templates and guidance from more experienced Landmen.
  • Coordinate with internal partners (e.g., Legal, Regulatory, Accounting, Operations) to obtain information and ensure accurate land documentation and data entry.
  • Participate in lease reviews, due diligence, and data room activities in a supporting capacity.
  • Observe negotiations and land/lease sale activities to build foundational understanding of negotiation approaches and market practices.
  • Follow established procedures, policies, and controls, escalating non-standard issues to supervisors or more experienced Landmen. Other duties as assigned.

  • Understands different types of negotiations and observes how they are conducted in practice.
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of basic oil and gas agreements and routine provisions (e.g., oil and gas leases, assignments, and simple contracts).
