What they need

Overview

Join our team as a Landscape Apprentice and kickstart your career in groundskeeping and landscape maintenance! This paid position offers hands-on experience working outdoors, where you'll learn essential skills in landscape care, plant identification, equipment operation, landscape installation & construction, and safety protocols. Whether you're passionate about gardening, outdoor work, landscaping, or eager to develop expertise in horticulture, this role provides a lively environment to grow your knowledge and contribute to beautiful, well-maintained outdoor spaces. Prior experience in landscaping is prefered but not necessary for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with landscape maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, planting, and pruning to ensure healthy and attractive outdoor spaces
  • Operate groundskeeping and landscaping equipment such as power tools, hand tools, and hardscape tools safely and effectively
  • Identify various plants, trees, and shrubs to aid in proper landscaping practices and plant health management (only basic knowledge required)
  • Follow safety protocols diligently during all outdoor activities to maintain a secure work environment
  • Help with weekly lawn maintenance, mowing, leaf cleanup, and property care activities
  • Operate a riding lawn mower, stand on lawn mower, weed wacker, backpack leaf blower, sidewalk edger, hedge trimmer, etc
  • Contribute to the installation of hardscape features such as pathways or retaining walls as directed
  • Assist in snow removal operations when required
  • Drive a pickup truck (Ford F-250 & F-150) and trailer to and from job sites when required
  • Operate a mini skid steer when required

Requirements - Apprentice

  • Outdoor work experience or enthusiasm for working outside in various weather conditions
  • Basic mechanical knowledge related to landscaping equipment and power tools
  • Strong interest in horticulture, gardening, and landscape design principles
  • Ability to identify common plants, trees, and shrubs for proper care and maintenance
  • Knowledge of pesticide management and safety procedures is a plus but not required; training can be provided
  • Attention to detail when working
  • Excellent attention to safety protocol adherence during all tasks involving equipment or hazardous materials
  • Reliable work ethic with the ability to follow instructions carefully and work as part of a team
  • 1 or more years of driving experience; preference given to those who have driven with a truck and trailer
  • Valid drivers license; must be insurable under company auto insurance policy
  • Must have your own transportation to and from work, must arrive on time daily
  • Must wear proper attire to work daily (company issued shirts/sweatshirts, belted pants/shorts/jeans, work boots (steel or composite toe), safety gear as required

Growth Opportunities

  • After a brief period as a landscape apprentice, you will become a Landscape Laborer. This would include similar job duties with less supervision and more equipment operation opportunities with a pay increase from the apprentice position.
  • After working as a Landscape Laborer, you will then graduate to a Landscape Technician. You will be a crew member on the landscape installation team which requires more skill and have less of a role in weekly maintenance activities. You will assist with installations of hardscape features such as retaining walls, patios, and pathways. You will also install large plantings, trees, and mulch/decorative stone features for our clients. This is where most of our team members like to stay.
  • After proving your knowledge as a Landscape Technician, you will have the opportunity to become a Crew Lead. Your responsibility will be to lead the other Landscape Technicians, Laborers, and Apprentices through the job duties and ensure quality. You will likely have company issues credit/debit cards and a company vehicle that will remain at the shop space for you to use.

This role is perfect for motivated individuals eager to develop practical skills in landscaping while contributing to vibrant outdoor environments. We value safety, enthusiasm, and a proactive attitude—if you’re ready to grow your expertise in groundskeeping and landscape maintenance, we want to hear from you!
