What they need
About Us:
Graham Landscape & Design is a leading provider of high-quality landscaping services and products. We excel at creating, installing, and maintaining beautiful and livable landscapes. Our passion is a sincere desire to improve the lives of our employees and our community. We are dedicated to creating beautiful outdoor spaces for our clients while providing exceptional customer service. Our core values are persistently passionate, service beyond expectation, and absolute accountability. We are currently seeking driven and creative Landscape Design students to join our team.
Position Summary:
We are looking for a Landscape Designer with strong plant and horticultural knowledge to join our growing design team. This position is ideal for someone who understands how thoughtful plant selection, layout, hardscape, irrigation, and other landscape elements come together to create a cohesive outdoor environment.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have a strong understanding of Pacific Northwest plant material and planting design. The right person will help develop planting plans, contribute to complete landscape designs, collaborate with our existing CAD designer, and help strengthen the knowledge and capabilities of our design team.
We welcome candidates with professional landscape design experience as well as individuals with strong horticultural backgrounds who have developed practical design experience through nurseries, landscape companies, landscape architecture programs, or related fields.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop creative, functional, and buildable landscape designs for residential and commercial properties.
- Create thoughtful planting plans based on site conditions, client preferences, mature plant size, seasonal interest, irrigation requirements, and long-term maintenance.
- Recommend trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, groundcovers, and other plant material appropriate for the Pacific Northwest.
- Participate in site visits to evaluate existing conditions and gather information needed for design development.
- Collaborate with our sales, design, and production teams to ensure designs reflect the client's vision, budget, and project requirements.
- Work alongside our CAD designer to develop accurate 2D plans and 3D presentations.
- Review designs for plant selection, functionality, constructability, and overall design quality.
- Help mentor and develop other members of the design team by sharing knowledge of planting design, landscape principles, and practical design considerations.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Continue developing knowledge of plants, materials, construction practices, and landscape-design trends.
Qualifications
Plant knowledge is especially important for this position.
A strong candidate will have:
- Strong knowledge of plants suitable for landscapes in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
- An understanding of plant characteristics including mature size, sun and shade requirements, water needs, seasonal interest, growth habits, and appropriate placement.
- Experience developing planting plans or designing landscapes.
- An understanding of fundamental landscape-design principles including scale, balance, texture, color, circulation, and functionality.
- Strong creative and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- The ability to explain design decisions and share knowledge with other members of the team.
Experience with AutoCAD or other landscape-design software is preferred but not required for an otherwise strong candidate.
Education or professional experience in landscape architecture, landscape design, horticulture, plant science, or a related field is preferred.
Professional landscape-industry experience is highly valued.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience and capabilities.
- The opportunity to work on real residential and commercial projects from concept through installation.
- Direct collaboration with experienced landscape construction and sales professionals.
- An environment where designers can see their work built and learn directly from the installation process.
- Opportunities to influence the development and standards of a growing design department.
- Professional growth through collaboration, field experience, and exposure to a wide variety of landscape projects.
- A locally owned company with a strong reputation in the Eugene/Springfield community.
Who Should Apply?
Don't rule yourself out because your background doesn't perfectly match a traditional landscape-design career path.
We are interested in hearing from experienced landscape designers, horticulturists, landscape architecture graduates, nursery professionals with design experience, and other candidates who combine plant knowledge with an eye for landscape design.
If you know plants, understand what makes an outdoor space work, enjoy solving design problems, and want to see your ideas built in the real world, we'd like to hear from you.
How to Apply
Please submit your resume and a brief introduction describing your landscape-design and plant experience.
Portfolio examples, planting plans, CAD drawings, photographs of completed projects, or other examples of previous design work are strongly encouraged.
