What they need
Landscape Installation Foreman / Crew Leader
Sharpe’s Outdoor Services, LLC — Livingston County, Michigan
$28–$35 per hour | Full-Time | Overtime Available
Are you already doing the foreman’s job without receiving the foreman’s pay, authority, or recognition?
Sharpe’s Outdoor Services is looking for an experienced Landscape Installation Foreman who knows how to lead a crew, organize a jobsite, solve problems, and deliver work that everyone is proud to put their name on.
This is not an entry-level position, and it is not a “foreman” title attached to a laborer’s job. We are looking for a dependable leader who can take ownership of a project, direct a crew, communicate professionally with customers, and keep work moving without needing constant supervision.
In return, we offer competitive, clearly stated pay, steady work, quality equipment, and the opportunity to build a long-term leadership role with a growing Livingston County company.
Compensation
- $28–$35 per hour
- Overtime opportunities during the busy season
- Consistent full-time schedule
- Performance and compensation reviews
- Paid vacation/PTO
- Year-round work or guaranteed winter opportunities
- Production, completion, or performance bonuses
Final starting wage within the posted range will be determined by the applicant’s demonstrated leadership ability and relevant installation experience—not by an undisclosed wage scale.
What You Will Lead
You will oversee a landscape installation crew completing residential and commercial projects throughout Livingston County and surrounding communities. Depending on the project, work may include:
- Landscape installation and renovation
- Site preparation, grading, and drainage
- Sod, seed, mulch, plants, shrubs, and trees
- Brick-paver patios, walkways, and edging
- Retaining walls and boulder walls
- Landscape steps, fire pits, and outdoor-living features
- Irrigation-related work
- Excavation and equipment-assisted installation
- Material loading, placement, and jobsite organization
Your Responsibilities
- Lead, organize, and motivate a landscape installation crew
- Review project plans and daily production goals
- Assign work based on each crew member’s abilities
- Ensure the crew has the correct materials, tools, and equipment
- Establish grades, elevations, layout, and material placement
- Operate and supervise the safe use of landscape and excavation equipment
- Monitor workmanship, efficiency, and jobsite safety
- Anticipate problems and communicate material or scheduling needs promptly
- Train employees and correct performance issues professionally
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites
- Communicate respectfully with customers, crew members, and management
- Complete projects according to specifications, schedule, and company quality standards
- Conduct final quality checks before leaving each project
- Take responsibility for the crew’s performance and the finished product
You May Be a Strong Fit If You:
- Have at least three years of professional landscape installation, hardscape, excavation, or closely related construction experience
- Have experience leading a landscape or construction crew
- Can read plans, establish grades, lay out projects, and calculate material needs
- Know how to sequence work efficiently instead of waiting for step-by-step instructions
- Can safely operate relevant trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment
- Hold yourself and your crew accountable without creating unnecessary conflict
- Can communicate professionally with homeowners and commercial customers
- Take care of company equipment as though it were your own
- Are dependable, punctual, organized, and able to make sound decisions
- Have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Can perform physically demanding outdoor work in changing Michigan weather
A chauffeur’s license, pesticide certification, CDL, irrigation experience, or advanced hardscape experience is valuable but not necessarily required unless specifically stated during the hiring process.
What Makes This Position Different
We are not looking for someone to simply keep a crew busy. We want a leader who can improve the crew.
At Sharpe’s, the right foreman will have the authority to organize the job, develop employees, protect quality, and help shape how the company grows. Strong performance will be recognized with increased responsibility and opportunities to advance into project management or operations leadership.
You will be trusted to lead—but you will not be left without support.
How to Apply
Apply through Indeed with your work history and answers to the following questions:
- What types of landscape or hardscape projects have you personally supervised?
- What was the largest crew you were responsible for leading?
- Which trucks, trailers, machines, and specialized tools can you safely operate?
- Can you establish grades and complete a project from layout through final walkthrough?
- Describe one difficult jobsite problem you identified and solved.
- What would your former crew members say about your leadership?
- Why are you considering leaving your current position?
Qualified applicants will be contacted for a confidential initial conversation.
Sharpe’s Outdoor Services, LLC is an equal-opportunity employer. Employment is contingent upon verification of qualifications, driving eligibility when applicable, and satisfaction of all lawful employment requirements.
