What they need

Landscape Maintenance Sales Representative

Department: Landscape Maintenance
Reports To: General Manager / Maintenance Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Reno/Sparks, Nevada

Position Summary

The Landscape Maintenance Sales Representative is responsible for growing the company’s commercial landscape maintenance division by developing new customer relationships, preparing proposals, securing profitable maintenance contracts, and identifying additional enhancement opportunities.

This position will focus primarily on commercial properties throughout the Reno/Sparks area, including office buildings, HOAs, retail centers, industrial properties, multi-family communities, medical facilities, and other commercial properties.

The ideal candidate is outgoing, organized, self-motivated, comfortable developing new business, and able to understand a customer’s landscape needs while protecting company profitability.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop new commercial landscape maintenance accounts throughout the Reno/Sparks market.
  • Prospect for new customers through phone calls, emails, networking, property visits, referrals, property managers, general contractors, and existing company relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with property managers, facility managers, HOAs, commercial property owners, and other decision-makers.
  • Conduct site walks and evaluate properties for landscape maintenance requirements.
  • Measure and document turf, planting areas, irrigation systems, trees, shrubs, and other landscape components necessary for estimating.
  • Prepare accurate maintenance proposals and scopes of work.
  • Determine appropriate labor hours, crew requirements, equipment needs, materials, and service frequencies when developing proposals.
  • Work with management and operations to ensure proposed pricing and service levels are realistic and profitable.
  • Follow up consistently on outstanding proposals and sales opportunities.
  • Negotiate contracts while maintaining company pricing and profitability standards.
  • Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide regular updates on leads, proposals, expected contract value, and closing probability.
  • Meet established monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals.
  • Coordinate the transition of newly awarded accounts to the maintenance operations team.
  • Participate in new-account walkthroughs to ensure operations understands the scope and customer expectations.
  • Maintain communication with new customers during the transition period and assist in resolving scope or expectation issues.
  • Identify enhancement opportunities such as irrigation repairs and upgrades, plant replacements, seasonal color, mulch, pruning, landscape renovations, turf improvements, and other additional services.
  • Maintain accurate customer, proposal, contract, and follow-up information in the company's CRM or sales tracking system.
  • Represent the company professionally at customer meetings, networking events, and industry functions.

Sales Expectations

The Landscape Maintenance Sales Representative is expected to actively generate business rather than rely solely on incoming leads.

Performance will be measured using factors including:

  • Gross profit/margin of contracts sold
  • Number and value of proposals generated
  • Proposal closing percentage
  • Sales pipeline activity
  • New customer development
  • Enhancement opportunities generated
  • Customer retention and successful account turnover

The goal is to build profitable, long-term recurring maintenance relationships, rather than simply generating sales volume.

Qualifications

  • Previous landscape maintenance, landscape sales, account management, estimating, or commercial service sales experience preferred.
  • Understanding of commercial landscape maintenance operations is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read landscape plans and understand irrigation systems is beneficial.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable cold calling, prospecting, networking, and approaching potential customers.
  • Ability to perform property walkthroughs and develop detailed scopes of work.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple proposals and opportunities simultaneously.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, estimating software, and CRM systems.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
