Athletic Field Maintenance / Groundskeeper – Year-Round
$200 per day | Minimum 3 days per week guaranteed

Sports Turf Services is looking for a reliable, practical and motivated individual to help maintain high-quality athletic fields at Whitfield Academy and The Weber School in the Atlanta area.

This is a year-round position with three days of work per week guaranteed, including throughout the winter. This is not a seasonal position.

There will also be opportunities for a fourth and fifth day of work helping with the broader contracting side of Sports Turf Services. This may include baseball field work, dirt work, artificial turf installations and other sports turf contracting services, particularly during the winter period.

The position pays $200 per day.

The role may also expand to include additional schools and athletic facilities as we continue to grow.

IMPORTANT: Applicants must live within approximately 30 minutes of Roswell, GA to be considered.

What We Are Looking For

Reliability is the number one attribute we are looking for. We need someone who can be trusted to show up, take responsibility for their work and complete tasks to a high standard.

You should be an early riser who genuinely doesn't mind early mornings. Athletic field maintenance often needs to be completed early in the day, so being comfortable with early starts is an important part of the position.

A willingness to learn and strong problem-solving ability are absolutely key. This is a hands-on position, and we are looking for someone who can think for themselves, identify problems and find practical solutions without needing constant supervision.

The ability to carry out small repairs, troubleshoot equipment and fix minor issues as they arise is essential. You do not need to be a professional mechanic, but you should be mechanically minded, comfortable using tools and willing to figure things out.

This is also a forward-facing position. You must be comfortable speaking with coaches, athletic staff and school management, answering questions and representing Sports Turf Services in a friendly and professional manner.

An interest in and enjoyment of sports is important, as you will be working around athletic programs and sports facilities on a daily basis.

Primary Responsibilities

• Reel mowing athletic fields
• Weed eating, edging and general detailing
• Chemical spraying and turf applications
• Operating powered boom sprayers, including equipment such as Z-Sprays
• Artificial turf grooming and maintenance
• Operating small tractors and turf maintenance equipment
• General athletic field maintenance and presentation
• Basic equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs
• Basic irrigation troubleshooting and operation of irrigation controllers
• Communicating with coaches, athletic staff and school management

Experience

Previous experience in golf course maintenance, athletic field maintenance, sports turf or professional grounds maintenance is highly valued, but not necessary. We are willing to train the right person.

Experience with reel mowing, powered boom sprayers such as Z-Sprays, chemical applications, small tractors and turf equipment is a significant advantage.

Experience with residential or light commercial irrigation systems is also valued, particularly applicants who are comfortable operating and programming irrigation controllers, identifying basic irrigation problems and carrying out minor troubleshooting or repairs.

For us, reliability, willingness to learn, practical ability, communication skills and problem-solving ability are more important than having years of turf experience.

Company Vehicle & Fuel

A company Ford F-150 is provided, with fuel covered for all work-related duties.

Occasional towing of equipment will be required, generally 10,000 lbs or less. Towing is not part of the normal daily routine, but applicants must be willing to tow when required. Previous trailer and towing experience is a significant advantage.

Schedule & Additional Work

Three days per week are guaranteed year-round at $200 per day.

Additional work may be available on the fourth and fifth days, depending on our contracting schedule. This gives the right person an opportunity to work across other areas of the company and learn additional skills, including:

• Baseball field renovation and maintenance
• Dirt and grading work
• Artificial turf installation
• Other sports turf and contracting projects

Requirements

• Must live within approximately 30 minutes of Roswell, GA
• Must be able to pass a full background check
• Must be extremely reliable and dependable
• Must be comfortable with early mornings and early starts
• Must be willing to learn and able to problem-solve independently
• Must be capable of basic troubleshooting and minor repairs
• Must be comfortable communicating with coaches, staff and management
• Must be willing to occasionally tow equipment up to approximately 10,000 lbs
