Southwell Engineering is looking for an experienced Laser Cutting & Brake Press Operator to join our manufacturing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and reliable tradesperson with experience in laser cutting, brake press operation and sheet-metal fabrication to become part of a growing company specialising in lifts, hoists and lifting equipment.

The Role

Working within our manufacturing workshop, you will be responsible for producing high-quality components and assemblies used in our lift and hoist systems.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Operating and setting up laser cutting machinery.
• Operating and setting up brake presses.
• Cutting, folding and forming sheet metal to engineering specifications.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Selecting appropriate tooling and machine settings.
• Measuring and inspecting finished components for accuracy.
• Working with a range of steel and sheet-metal products.
• Assisting with general fabrication and workshop duties when required.
• Maintaining machinery, tooling and a clean, organised work area.
• Working safely and following company procedures and quality standards.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience operating laser cutting and brake press machinery.
• Sheet-metal fabrication experience.
• The ability to confidently read engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of measurements, tolerances and fabrication processes.
• Strong attention to detail.
• A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
• A commitment to workplace safety and producing quality work.

Experience in lifts, hoists, structural steel, engineering or general manufacturing will be highly regarded.
