Laser Process Development Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a Laser Process Development Engineer to lead the research, development, and optimization of laser-based manufacturing processes (cutting, welding, drilling, ablation, or annealing) for high-precision equipment. You will bridge the gap between laser physics and practical machine execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Process Optimization: Develop and refine laser material interaction processes to achieve micron-level precision, minimal heat-affected zones (HAZ), and high throughput.
• Subsystem Specification: Define requirements for laser sources (fiber, CO2, ultrafast/pico/femtosecond lasers), beam delivery systems, galvo scanners, optics, and power meters.
• Prototyping & Testing: Conduct DOE (Design of Experiments) to determine optimal laser parameters (pulse width, frequency, fluence, scan speed) for various materials (metals, glass, ceramics, polymers).
• Integration Support: Work alongside software and motion control teams to synchronize laser firing with high-speed multi-axis motion trajectories (On-The-Fly processing).
• Quality Assurance: Establish process repeatability, failure analysis protocols, and safety compliance standards for class-certified laser systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Laser Physics, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience in industrial laser processing, R&D, or equipment manufacturing.
• Technical Skills:
• Hands-on experience with industrial lasers.
• Strong background in beam optics, polarization, diffraction, and focal dynamics.
• Familiarity with metrology tools (confocal microscopes, SEM, profilometers) for analyzing laser-processed materials.
• Working knowledge of safety standards (ANSI/CE laser safety regulations).
