What they need

Mission Brief

As a Launch Operations Technician, you will join our team on the arctic island of Andøya to perform test and launch campaigns of our Spectrum launch vehicle. For these campaigns you will work closely with the local operations team and with support teams from our German headquarters. Besides the campaigns you will carry out improvement and maintenance activities for our launch site infrastructure, as well as preparatory work like creating procedures and processes to ensure smooth, safe and efficient operations.

This is a mechanical, hands-on role. Your day is spent on pipework, valves, tanks and the hydraulic and gas systems on the pad. If your background is in avionics or electrical engineering, this is not the right role - we are looking for people who work on pressure, fluid and mechanical systems, and who want to keep working with their hands.

You will play a crucial role in creating reliable access to space from mainland Europe.

Your Role in Our Space Mission:

  • Work on the fluid and pressure systems of the launch site - pipework, valves, tanks, hydraulics and gas systems - including gas and fluid bolting
  • Keep the ground infrastructure and machinery (pad, AIT, workshops) operational, ready to test and launch, and compliant with regulatory requirements by developing and executing maintenance plans
  • Support test and launch campaigns of our Spectrum vehicle: preparing the pad for operation, hands-on troubleshooting, and operating parts of the ground systems - including the lifting and rigging work when the vehicle goes up
  • Implement changes to and continuously improve our infrastructure and processes
  • Manufacture custom mechanical parts or assemblies for usage in our facilities
  • Take care of our workshops and equipment
  • Join the industrial safety and first responder team

Qualification Checklist

  • Completed vocational training in a mechanical or technical trade - in Norway a fagbrev as industrimekaniker, prosessoperatør, industrirørlegger, automasjonsmekaniker or comparable; in Germany a completed Ausbildung as Industriemechaniker, Anlagenmechaniker or similar
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic or pressurised systems
  • Knowledge of gas and fluid bolting techniques ( flensearbeid , bolt tensioning)
  • Spatial awareness and good technical understanding
  • High attention to detail and quality
  • Excellent teamwork
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a highly dynamic environment
  • Foundational knowledge of computer and software applications
  • Well organised mode of working
  • Physical dexterity is required as working in confined spaces is necessary, including the ability to lift 25 kg without assistance
  • Driver's licence class B (3.5t)
  • Fluent in English (Norwegian and/or German are helpful)
  • Willingness to relocate to Andøya - this role cannot be done remotely

Bonus Skills

  • Certification in flange work to NS-EN 1591-4
  • Any type of additional licences (e.g. forklift, craning, trucks) — G4, G11, G20
  • Additional manufacturing skills (e.g. milling, lathing)
  • Basic welding skills
  • Experience working with hazardous materials or systems under pressure
  • Experience from offshore, refinery or process plant maintenance - vedlikeholdstekniker, mechanical fitter, pipefitter backgrounds fit well here
  • First aid or industrial safety training

Benefits

  • Employee Participation Program: Share in our success through our virtual company share program
  • 6 weeks of vacation: Enjoy the days off to relax and recharge
  • Subsidised lunch: Stay energised with delicious, subsidised lunches every day
  • Relocation support: Benefit from our relocation bonus with deductible expenses up to an agreed amount
  • Wellness allowance: Stay healthy and fit with our yearly allowance for wellness activities (e.g., Gym, Massages)
  • Individual learning allowance: Grow your skills with an individual learning budget granted after the probation period
  • Physical and mental well-being: Access via OpenUp the online support from certified psychologists and lifestyle experts at no cost to you and your family
  • And Much More! Discover additional perks and benefits when you join our team.
