Laundry Worker

Job Summary

The Laundry Attendant is responsible for providing efficient and reliable laundry services within a detention center(Jail). This role involves collecting, sorting, washing, drying, folding, and returning laundry items to designated housing units. The attendant ensures all laundry operations are conducted safely, hygienically, and in compliance with facility protocols. Additionally, the position requires maintaining cleanliness and organization of the laundry area and managing laundry supplies to support smooth daily operations. The Laundry Attendant plays a vital role in supporting the facility’s sanitation standards and delivering quality service to residents.

Duties

• Collect laundry from housing units and ensure timely return of personal laundry on the same day it is collected.
• Sort laundry items based on type, color, and washing requirements to ensure proper cleaning procedures.
• Operate commercial washers and dryers efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.
• Use appropriate laundry detergents and sanitation practices to maintain hygiene standards.
• Fold clean laundry items neatly and accurately return them to the correct housing units or designated areas.
• Push carts or other equipment to transport laundry between storage areas and housing units safely.
• Maintain inventory of laundry supplies and restock stock in the booking laundry room as needed.
• Keep work areas, equipment, and tools clean, sanitized, and organized at all times.
• Follow all safety protocols related to handling laundry chemicals, operating machinery, and maintaining sanitation standards.
• Provide courteous customer service to staff and residents when interacting during laundry exchanges or inquiries.

Experience

• Prior experience in a custodial, janitorial, or laundry services role is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
• Basic math skills are necessary for managing quantities, measurements, and inventory tracking.
• Ability to follow safety procedures diligently and work in a secure environment is essential.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are important for sorting and handling laundry items accurately.
• Good physical stamina for pushing carts, standing for extended periods, and performing manual tasks related to laundry operations.

Pay: $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 30.0 per week
