Lead Azure AI Engineer

• 12+24 month contract - 40 hrs per week
• QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW or SA address
• Deliver production-ready AI & agentic solutions - Azure AI

Our client, a major Federal Government department responsible for agriculture, fisheries, forestry, biosecurity and agricultural trade, require the services of a Lead Azure AI Engineer.

Duties of the Lead Azure AI Engineer

• Design, develop & deploy AI solutions using Azure AI services;
• Build & maintain AI agents, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) solutions, workflow automation & intelligent business applications;
• Design, develop & implement a page classification methodology;
• Collaborate in developing & enhancing front‑end experiences for AI solutions;
• Collaborate on the development & maintenance of APIs, integrations & microservices to connect AI capabilities with departmental systems & external data sources;
• Design & implement vector search, document intelligence & data ingestion pipelines to support AI‑powered business services;
• Undertake AI assurance activities, including model evaluation, explainability, bias testing, prompt injection testing & adversarial assessments.
• Implement security, privacy & governance controls consistent with departmental AI policies, cyber security requirements & responsible AI principles;

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven experience in creating & deploying advanced data science/AI engineering & modelling specific to large language models & document classification
• Proficiency in deploying AI solutions using Azure AI services in a production environment;
• Experience working in a DevOps environment (desired);
• ​​An understanding of the imported cargo pathway​ (desired).
