Lead Carpenter

Select Builders is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our crew.

We are a small general contracting company specializing in custom homes, remodels, additions, and a large variety of high quality residential construction projects throughout Nevada County. We are looking for someone who is not only an experienced carpenter, but also has the ability to take the lead on a jobsite, organize the day, direct other crew members, and maintain a high level of quality.

This is a working lead position. You will be performing hands on carpentry alongside the crew while also helping manage the daily organization and direction of the jobsite.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The right person will be a well rounded journeyman level carpenter who can confidently handle framing, layout, and finish carpentry. You should be comfortable reading plans, thinking ahead, solving problems in the field, and working independently without needing constant direction.

Just as important, we are looking for someone who takes ownership of the jobsite and their work. That means noticing what needs to happen next, keeping the crew productive, protecting finished work, catching mistakes before they become bigger problems, and communicating when something doesn't look right.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform framing, layout, finish carpentry, and general residential construction at a journeyman level
• Work alongside the crew while providing daily direction and instruction
• Review plans and organize the day's work before getting started
• Plan ahead for required tools, equipment, and materials
• Read and work from plans, specifications, layouts, and shop drawings
• Check completed work for accuracy and quality before it is covered up
• Coordinate with subcontractors in the field and communicate issues to supervision
• Handle inspections when needed
• Keep the jobsite clean, organized, safe, and professional
• Protect finished surfaces, installed materials, and customer property
• Communicate job progress, material needs, delays, field conditions, and problems
• Provide jobsite photos and written updates when requested
• Help train and guide less experienced crew members
• Follow and enforce company safety standards
• Take ownership of mistakes and help get them corrected properly

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong residential construction experience
• Journeyman level carpentry skills
• Strong framing, layout, and finish carpentry abilities
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans
• Ability to organize and direct a small crew
• Good understanding of construction sequencing
• Strong problem solving skills and construction judgment
• Reliable and able to manage time effectively
• Clear verbal and written communication
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and measurement tools accurately
• Ability to work independently and make good decisions in the field
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Personal hand tools appropriate for the position

WHAT WE OFFER

• $42.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on experience, demonstrated skill, and ability to lead
• Full time, Monday through Friday work
• Consistent residential construction projects throughout Nevada County

• Company utility body work truck may be available to the right candidate based on experience and level of responsibility

You should be comfortable leading without standing around supervising. Our Lead Carpenter works with the crew, sets the pace, communicates clearly, and leads by example.

We do high quality residential work and expect our jobsites and finished work to reflect that.
