LEAD CARPENTER
DIFABION REMODELING, INC. | FULL-TIME
JOB DESCRIPTION
DiFabion Remodeling, Inc. is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join our Production team. We are looking for someone who values hard work, dedication, pride in their craft, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
This is not an entry-level or training position. We are looking for an established residential remodeling carpenter who already has the knowledge, experience, and problem-solving ability to independently execute high-quality construction work.
The right person will initially work alongside our existing carpenters to learn DiFabion’s processes, standards, and expectations. Once familiar with how we operate, they should be capable of taking the lead on the construction side of an assigned project, working closely with the Project Manager to carry the work from demolition and framing through trim, finishes, and completion.
Our projects include kitchens, bathrooms, additions, whole-home renovations, porches, outdoor living spaces, and other substantial residential remodeling projects throughout the greater Charlotte area. Much of our work takes place in occupied homes, so professionalism, cleanliness, communication, and respect for our clients and their homes are just as important as craftsmanship.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
– Extensive hands-on residential remodeling and carpentry experience
– 5+ years of residential construction/carpentry experience strongly preferred
– Strong rough and finish carpentry skills
– Ability to read and understand construction plans and details
– Ability to lay out and execute work independently
– Resourceful problem-solver who can adapt to the existing conditions commonly encountered in remodeling
– Strong understanding of residential construction methods and building science
– General understanding of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other trade work and how those systems interact with the project
– Detail-oriented with high standards for craftsmanship
– Ability to identify potential problems before they become problems and communicate them to the Project Manager
– Ability to work independently while also collaborating with other carpenters, Project Managers, and trade partners
– Ability to lead and provide direction to another carpenter or helper when assigned
– Professional and respectful when communicating with clients and working in occupied homes
– Reliable, accountable, and able to maintain a clean and safe jobsite
– Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, phone, and appropriate hand and power tools
More important than years of experience alone is the ability to demonstrate the judgment and craftsmanship necessary to perform this work without needing to be trained in the fundamentals of residential construction.
TYPICAL JOB TASKS & EXPECTATIONS
– Site protection, preparation, and selective demolition
– Rough framing and structural carpentry
– Layout and modification of existing conditions
– Window and door installation
– Interior and exterior trim carpentry
– Cabinetry and built-in installation
– Minor drywall, tile, and other miscellaneous construction work as needed
– Reading plans and translating them into accurate field construction
– Identifying discrepancies or unforeseen conditions and working with the Project Manager to develop solutions
– Planning ahead for upcoming work, materials, and manpower needs
– Coordinating work around subcontractors and trade partners
– Maintaining DiFabion’s standards for craftsmanship, cleanliness, and jobsite organization
– Taking ownership of the carpentry and construction work on assigned projects
– Assisting with quality control, punch work, and project completion
– Representing DiFabion professionally in our clients’ homes
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
A successful Lead Carpenter at DiFabion does not need someone standing beside them explaining how to build. They understand residential construction, know how to think through a project, and take pride in producing work that meets a high standard.
They can walk onto a project, review the plans and existing conditions, understand what needs to happen next, and communicate what they need to keep the work moving. When something unexpected is uncovered, they recognize it, communicate it, and help develop the right solution rather than simply building around the problem.
The Project Manager remains responsible for the overall management of the project. The Lead Carpenter is expected to take ownership of the craftsmanship, field execution, and quality of the construction work while working closely with the PM and the rest of the Production team.
We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term member of our team, takes pride in their work, works well with other experienced craftsmen, and shares our commitment to Trust, Vision, Pride, and Family.
