The Lead Carpenter will be responsible for overseeing and executing rough and finish carpentry work while providing hands-on leadership to other carpenters and construction personnel. The ideal candidate takes ownership of their work, demonstrates strong problem-solving abilities, and understands the level of precision and professionalism required in luxury residential construction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform rough and finish carpentry across custom home construction and residential remodeling projects.
  • Supervise, train, and provide direction to carpenters, apprentices, and other assigned construction personnel.
  • Frame walls, ceilings, soffits, blocking, backing, and other structural components.
  • Oversee the installation of doors, windows, trim, baseboards, casing, cabinetry, millwork, and architectural details.
  • Read, interpret, and execute construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and detailed architectural drawings.
  • Plan and coordinate daily carpentry activities to maintain project schedules and meet construction milestones.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Take precise measurements and ensure all cuts, installations, and finishes meet company quality standards.
  • Identify construction challenges, troubleshoot field conditions, and implement effective solutions.
  • Coordinate with project superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, and other trades to ensure seamless workflow.
  • Monitor material requirements, communicate supply needs, and minimize unnecessary material waste.
  • Inspect completed carpentry work to ensure accuracy, structural integrity, and high-quality finishes.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of carpentry tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites while protecting finished surfaces and client property.
  • Enforce job-site safety procedures and promote a professional, productive work environment.
  • Communicate project progress, potential delays, and construction concerns to project leadership.

Qualifications

  • 5–7+ years of professional carpentry experience, including extensive rough and finish carpentry work.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Carpenter, Foreman, or in a similar construction leadership position preferred.
  • Strong background in custom homes, luxury residential construction, and full-home remodeling.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and lead carpentry crews effectively.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Extensive experience with framing, trim work, doors, cabinetry, millwork, and detailed finish carpentry.
  • Exceptional measuring, cutting, installation, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with professional hand tools, power tools, saws, levels, lasers, and carpentry equipment.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, building codes, and job-site safety practices.
  • Ability to organize daily work activities, prioritize tasks, and maintain construction schedules.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to superior craftsmanship and precision.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and collaborate with project management and other trades.
  • Reliable, punctual, organized, and professional in both appearance and conduct.
  • Experience working in occupied homes and high-end client-facing environments preferred.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding construction work, including lifting materials and working from ladders.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must have basic personal carpentry hand tools.
  • OSHA certification or additional construction safety training is a plus.
