Lead Customer Project Support Engineer

Summary

• Location: Markham, ON
• Duration: 12 Months

Responsibilities

• Analyze customer applications/specifications and design protection and control panel, Automation Panel, Scada, telecom panel mechanical layout, single line diagram, three line diagram, schematic diagram, power diagram, control diagram, and Bill of Materials using Autocad/Ebase/SAP.
• Take full technical execution responsibility for assigned projects and discuss design requirements with the customer and Drafting support in the GEV Back Office (India).
• Review the design from the back office and submit it to the customer for approval.
• Perform engineering studies and analyses such as Load Calculation and Heat Rise Analysis.
• Design control logic solutions to meet customer requests, including complex control schemes such as Transfer schemes, Synchronizing schemes, and Auto-restoration schemes.
• Create Test Plans/Procedures/Reports.
• Provide training, peer checks, design support, and mentoring to other team members.
• Review lessons learned, apply to the next project, recommend changes in checklist, procedures, and share with other team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in panel design, analyzing and creation of specification/compliance statement, single line diagram, schematic diagram, control diagram, wiring drawing, and power diagram related to relay protections and control using Autocad/Ebase.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications.
• Experience in creating test procedures and maintenance procedures related to factory and site testing and commissioning protection panel.
• Experience programming company Vernova relays (specifically the UR Family) or 3rd party Protection Relays.
• Experience in designing power system control schemes (Transfer Schemes, Auto-restoration Schemes).
• Excellent understanding of theoretical bases for all major protection principles including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator, and Large Motor protection.

Preferred Skills

• Ability to apply advanced ideas in the technical engineering field and LEAN process to practical business problems.
• Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects.
• Working knowledge of major test sets and short-circuit/setting coordination software.
• Interdisciplinary experience including metering, communications, substation automation, and integration.
• Working knowledge with E Base panel design tool or AutoCAD tool.
• Strong understanding and experience with CSA, UL, and CE requirements.
• Lean/6 Sigma Green belt or Black belt certification preferred.
• P.Eng Certified is an asset.
