The Position

We are looking for a Lead D365 Developer to guide the technical direction and delivery of our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) development efforts. This role sits within the ERP Platform team and combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, ensuring our development team delivers high-quality, well-architected solutions across D365/X++, SQL, Synapse/Fabric, Power Platform, and OData/data entity integrations.

The ideal candidate is a strong D365 F&O developer who has grown into a technical leadership role and can author and review functional and technical design documentation, mentor developers, enforce engineering standards, and act as the key technical liaison between the development team, the ERP Platform Manager, and the larger ERP team.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

  • Apply hands-on, strong working knowledge of D365 F&O modules and functionality, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Fixed Assets, Procurement & Sourcing, Sales & Marketing, Inventory & Warehouse Management, and Production Control, to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Lead the design, development, and code review of custom solutions within D365 F&O and related applications.
  • Review and provide feedback on Functional Design Documents (FDDs) to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with platform architecture.
  • Author Technical Design Documents (TDDs) translating functional requirements into detailed technical specifications.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and development guidelines for the development team.
  • Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Own the technical architecture for integrations, data entities, and OData services connecting D365 to upstream and downstream systems.

Data & Analytics Platform

  • Design and optimize database schemas and SQL objects supporting D365 F&O and related reporting needs.
  • Design and implement data integration and analytics pipelines using Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric, including Synapse Link/Fabric Link for Dataverse and F&O, Lakehouse/OneLake architecture, Data Factory pipelines, and downstream Power BI reporting.
  • Guide development and troubleshooting efforts involving Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric for data integration, reporting, and analytics workloads.
  • Ensure data flows between D365, Synapse, and Fabric are performant, reliable, and well-documented.
  • Integrate D365 F&O with the Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse) and dual-write scenarios where applicable.

Integrations

  • Lead the design and implementation of integrations between D365 F&O and third-party applications using OData, custom data entities, REST, DMF, and other integration patterns (batch, real-time, middleware).
  • Define integration error handling, monitoring, retry, and reconciliation strategies, and document interface specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration issues across systems.
  • Partner with functional and infrastructure teams to ensure integration solutions meet business and technical requirements.

People & Team Management

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of developers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
  • Allocate development work across the team, balancing priorities, deadlines, and technical complexity.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support hiring and onboarding of new developers.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, code quality, and continuous improvement.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Serve as a key technical point of contact within the ERP Platform team.
  • Report to the ERP Platform Manager, providing status updates, risk escalation, and technical recommendations.
  • Collaborate with functional consultants, business analysts, and other IT teams to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release management activities.

Requirements:

Required

  • 7+ years of experience developing on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) or Dynamics AX, with strong proficiency in X++.
  • Proven experience authoring TDDs and reviewing FDDs.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational database schema design.
  • Hands-on experience with OData and data entities in D365.
  • Experience designing and supporting system integrations (real-time, batch, middleware).
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring a team of developers, whether in a formal or informal lead capacity.
  • Strong understanding of D365 F&O architecture, extensibility framework, and Lifecycle Services (LCS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Preferred

  • Microsoft certifications related to Dynamics 365 F&O development.
  • Experience with Azure Synapse and/or Microsoft Fabric for data integration and analytics.
  • Familiarity with Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps) in relation to D365 data.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for source control, work item tracking, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in an ERP platform team supporting multiple business units or a large enterprise environment.
  • Background in Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
