Lead Data Engineer

About the role:

On behalf of our client, DATAHEAD is looking for a hands-on Lead Data Engineer / Data Platform Lead to build the data foundation. This is not a traditional BI or reporting role. You will work with large volumes of operational data including vehicle telemetry, GPS and location data, routes, driver activity, transport orders, customers and external data sources. Your goal will be to make that data reliable, scalable and usable across Product, Engineering and future AI / agentic capabilities.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Own:

• Assess and map existing data landscape
• Design the target data architecture for the next stage of the platform
• Build reliable batch and real-time data pipelines
• Integrate data across vehicles, GPS, routes, drivers, transport orders, customers and external systems
• Create trusted core data models across vehicles, drivers, orders, routes, customers and operational events
• Improve data quality, monitoring, observability and reliability
• Enable real-time access to operational data for product and automation use cases
• Build data services that future AI agents can safely query and act against
• Work closely with Product and Engineering to support new customer-facing functionality
• Establish strong engineering standards around testing, documentation and deployment
• Create a scalable data foundation that future Data and AI hires can build on

Required Skills

• Strong Python and SQL
• Proven experience building production-grade data pipelines
• Experience with cloud data platforms and modern data architecture
• Experience with real-time or event-driven data
• Strong data modelling skills
• Experience integrating APIs and multiple operational systems
• Experience with data quality, monitoring and observability
• Comfortable owning architecture and remaining hands-on with delivery
• Able to work closely with Product and Engineering in a fast-moving environment
• Fluent in English and Lithuanian

Preferred Skills

• Logistics, transport, telematics or IoT experience
• Kafka, Pub/Sub or other streaming technologies
• Airflow, dbt or similar orchestration and transformation tools
• Experience preparing data platforms for ML, LLM or agentic AI applications
• Experience in real-time, high-volume or event-driven environments

Vilnius-based office and hybrid work possibilities.

Gross salary range is 5000- 6500 EUR/month.
