Lead Data Engineer - PostgreSQL

This role would be a PJ contract supporting a US Based Client. This would likely be a 6 month contract to start and could sit 100% remote in Brazil.

This role would require a high level of Fluency in English.

DESCRIPTION

Client is seeking a hands-on Lead Data Engineer to guide the design and delivery of reliable healthcare data integrations and backend services. The role centers on PostgreSQL and GraphQL, with responsibility for translating ambiguous requirements into scalable, supportable solutions. This lead will provide technical direction, contribute to implementation, and communicate architecture decisions, risks, and trade-offs across distributed stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the architecture and implementation of relational data integrations, backend services, and GraphQL APIs for Client.
• Design PostgreSQL data models and optimize SQL, indexing, transactions, and query performance.
• Establish engineering practices for data quality, traceability, security, observability, and production support.
• Translate business and technical ambiguity into delivery plans, architectural decisions, and actionable engineering work.
• Coordinate dependencies and communicate delivery status, risks, trade-offs, and incident findings to technical and business stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrated experience leading hands-on data engineering delivery from architecture through production support.
• Advanced PostgreSQL experience covering relational modeling, complex SQL, query tuning, indexing, and operational troubleshooting.
• Advanced GraphQL experience designing schemas and resolvers, including authorization, pagination, batching, error handling, and schema evolution.
• Experience building dependable data pipelines or system integrations with attention to data accuracy, traceability, and operability.
• Ability to turn ambiguous client requirements into structured technical plans and independently own delivery outcomes.
• Evidence of communicating architecture decisions, risks, dependencies, and next steps clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience designing or operating Apache Kafka event-streaming solutions.
• Experience implementing or supporting Oracle GoldenGate change-data-capture and replication flows.
• Backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot, Python, or both.
• Experience delivering data solutions involving sensitive healthcare information or regulated data.
