Lead Developer – Execution Systems

Role Description

We are revamping the systems our Commodities team uses to execute commodity derivatives, and we are looking for a developer to lead that work. You will own the execution stack front to back, from order generation through to post-trade reconciliation. This is a hands-on role: you will set the architecture, write much of the critical code yourself, and work directly with the traders and quant researchers who depend on it.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the revamp of our execution systems for commodity derivatives: assess the current stack, define the target architecture, and deliver the migration in stages without disrupting live trading.
2. Build the execution infrastructure front to back: order management, execution algos, exchange gateways, market data, pre-trade risk checks, positions and post-trade reconciliation.
3. Design and build a low-latency algorithmic execution stack, measuring and reducing latency at every stage from market data in to order out.
4. Build regulatory and exchange restrictions on algorithmic execution into the system by design (order-to-trade ratios, order-rate limits, price bands, order-size and position limits, algo ID tagging, self-trade prevention, kill switches, audit trails), and keep it compliant as the rules change.
5. Work with compliance and risk to take algos through exchange approval, testing and audit.
6. Build the testing, simulation, monitoring and alerting needed to run the system safely, and own its stability in production.
7. Work with traders and quant researchers to turn their strategies into production execution logic, and to measure and improve execution quality.
8. Set engineering standards for the execution codebase and guide the developers who work on it.

Key Requirements

1. Front-to-back execution infrastructure. You have built a production execution platform end to end, covering order management, exchange connectivity, pre-trade risk and post-trade, and can explain the design decisions at each layer.
2. Low-latency algo execution stacks. You have built execution algos and the engine they run on, in C++ or a comparable systems language, working with native exchange protocols and market data feeds, and have measured and tuned latency across code, network and operating system.
3. Algorithmic execution restrictions. You understand the regulatory and exchange rules that govern algorithmic trading (for example, SEBI and exchange algo requirements), and have built systems that comply with them by design, including taking algos through approval and audit.

Other Skills and Experience

1. Sound knowledge of exchange-traded derivatives market structure: order types, matching behaviour, and spread and multi-leg execution. Experience in commodity derivatives is preferred.
2. The engineering discipline that live trading systems demand: automated testing, simulation and replay, staged releases, monitoring and fail-safes.
3. Experience leading a build or rebuild from design to production, and the ability to work closely with traders and researchers and explain trade-offs clearly.
