What they need

iPayroll is extremely proud to be a pioneer in cloud-based payroll solutions in New Zealand.

With the advancement of technology, many things have changed over the years, but one thing that has not changed is our commitment to deliver a quality cloud-based payroll solution.

To achieve that, we have put together a great team where people learn and grow whilst they develop product to keep us ahead of the game and best of all, they have fun doing it.

We are looking for a dynamic DevOps Lead who will:

  • 'Own' the enhancement, cost optimisation, security, and troubleshooting of our AWS Infrastructure.
  • Manage the pipeline of work for our busy DevOps team, while also leading from the front.
  • Mentor and genuinely care about the growth of your team.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain our existing Infrastructure as code platform.
  • Automate infrastructure, application deployment and configuration pipelines to production
  • Work with the development team to ensure that systems running on the platform have good observability, monitoring, security and high availability.
  • Perform regular capacity planning, vulnerability management and participate as part of incident response teams

You will possess:

  • Advanced AWS skills in core AWS services (e.g. EC2, RDS, S3, ECS and Fargate, Lambda, etc.)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code Tools (e.g. Cloud Formation, CDK, and Terraform)
  • Linux operation and administration skills
  • Solid cloud networking and secure system connectivity skills (VPC, Security Groups, etc.)
  • Automation and scripting skills for infrastructure build and deployment (e.g. Bash, Python and Groovy)
  • Proven ability to design secure systems and apply security best practices
  • Experience with using modern Git based source control systems (GitLab, GitHub.)
  • The ability to operate, manage and build continuous integration systems such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
  • Monitoring & Observability experience including implementation of dashboards, logging, and alerting using tools such as AWS CloudWatch, OpenSearch/ELK, or similar platforms

Bonus points for:

  • PostgreSQL or similar relational database management systems
  • Java
  • Practical Security knowledge – ISO 27001 Control Implementation, WAF, Environment Hardening, etc.

To be considered for the role you will be a collaborative people leader; passionate about driving both individual growth and collective team success. You will bring strong communication and problem-solving skills, together with a natural ability to write clear, accurate documentation for developers and external partners.

You'll get to be part of a team that delivers products that are used by thousands of businesses across New Zealand and Australia, and hundreds of thousands of people. Not only that, but you will be doing this alongside a great team that genuinely cares about each other, and you will be doing it in a great Kiwi owned company!

Finally, why us?

We might be a small team, but we have a big heart and a big client base.  We have over 11,000 customers across New Zealand and Australia, something we are very proud of.  We are also New Zealand’s leading PAYE intermediary processing billions of dollars of payrolls annually.

We are constantly looking at ways to improve and protect the service that we offer our clients and as such, our Technology team are involved in a variety of different projects and pieces of work and often have several balls in the air.   You will find yourself sharing knowledge with a team that likes to listen and likes to grow. We encourage our team to learn from each other and to take advantage of the onsite training we have available to help everyone develop their skills.

We also don’t have layers and layers of management; we very much work together as a team, and the Managing Director works in the business ‘on the daily’ and is always open to ideas from those that actually do the doing.  Ours is a business where your voice can and will be heard.

You don’t need to tick every box above. If you’re a seasoned DevOps Engineer with a passion for leading people, collaboration and continuous improvement, we’d love to hear from you!

Note: We are an office first place of business, and you must reside in Wellington and be able to work from our central city office four days a week to be considered for this role.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and interviews may take place prior to the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.

All applicants for this position MUST have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

Other offers great for you!
