Lead Electrical Controls Technician – Machine Assembly

United Surface Solutions | Santa Fe Springs, CA

Job Type: Full-time, on-site
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Job Summary

United Surface Solutions is seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Controls Technician to lead the electrical assembly, wiring, and troubleshooting of custom industrial machinery, including automated deburring equipment and wastewater treatment systems.

We are looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in industrial control panel building, machine wiring, and electrical troubleshooting who can also organize work, guide technicians, and take responsibility for completing electrical projects.

This position requires experience beyond control panel assembly. Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting complete industrial machines, working independently from electrical schematics, and supporting equipment startup and testing.

This is a machine manufacturing position, not construction or facility maintenance.

Previous supervisory experience is not required, but candidates must be willing and capable of taking on leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate electrical assembly work across multiple industrial machine builds.
  • Build, wire, and troubleshoot industrial electrical control panels and complete machines.
  • Assign tasks, establish priorities, and monitor the progress of electrical technicians.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot electrical components and control systems, including PLC I/O, VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, and contactors.
  • Inspect completed wiring and electrical assemblies for accuracy, safety, and workmanship.
  • Support machine startup, functional testing, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on training to electrical technicians.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production to resolve problems and keep projects on schedule.
  • Help improve electrical assembly procedures, organization, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with industrial electrical control panels and machine wiring.
  • Experience assembling, wiring, testing, or troubleshooting complete industrial machinery.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical components, including PLC I/O, VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, and control circuits.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve electrical problems on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to organize work, communicate effectively, and provide direction to other technicians.
  • Strong attention to detail, electrical safety, and quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building custom industrial machinery or automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled systems, HMIs, and industrial automation.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring, or training electrical technicians.
  • Electrical trade school, technical certification, or related education.
  • Experience with machine startup, commissioning, and functional testing.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a technically strong electrical professional who can take ownership of the electrical assembly process and help lead a small team.

The ideal candidate is someone who can troubleshoot problems independently, identify what needs to be done, organize electrical work, and ensure machines are completed correctly and efficiently.

This position combines hands-on electrical work with leadership responsibilities. You will help build and troubleshoot equipment while guiding other technicians and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.

We encourage experienced industrial electrical technicians who are ready to take the next step into a leadership role to apply.

Compensation: $40–$48 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Work Location: Santa Fe Springs, CA (on-site).

Pay: $40.00 - $48.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • 401(k) matching
