What they need
Lead Electrical Engineer - HVDC
- Location: Europe – Fully Remote
- Contract: Permanent
- Focus: HVDC | Offshore Transmission
- Travel: International, project dependent
Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer & HVDC specialist who wants to influence how major transmission projects are developed?
Turner Lovell is supporting a growing international utility group that provides onshore and offshore HV grids. They also provide specialist advisory services to international transmission operators and energy infrastructure developers.
We are recruiting a Lead Engineer to provide FEED and design oversight for HVDC power systems. You will design the high level concept of HVDC solutions, and then work with OEMs to produce detailed design and final selection. The opportunity is suited to someone who understands HVDC projects from both a technical and delivery perspective and can confidently challenge solutions, advise project owners and engage with the major technology providers.
Your Role
You will act as a senior technical authority across international HVDC programmes, helping clients move projects from initial concept towards successful delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Shape and evaluate HVDC solutions for major transmission projects.
- Lead technical workstreams from early concept and FEED through procurement and execution.
- Develop and challenge technical specifications, designs and OEM proposals.
- Advise project owners during tender evaluations and technical negotiations.
- Provide senior technical input into testing, commissioning and operational readiness.
- Lead expert teams and mentor engineers while engaging directly with developers, TSOs and technology providers.
Your Background
- 10+ years of HVDC experience with a strong understanding of HVDC systems and technologies.
- Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent technical background.
- Track record supporting the development or delivery of large, complex HVDC projects.
- Experience across several project stages – from specifications and design reviews to FAT, commissioning or operations.
- Strong knowledge of the major HVDC OEM landscape and experience engaging directly with manufacturers.
- Ability to lead technical discussions, challenge engineering solutions and communicate with senior stakeholders.
- Fluent English and flexibility for international travel.
Experience with offshore transmission, subsea interconnectors and renewable integration will be particularly relevant.
Why This Opportunity?
Rather than being tied to one technology or one project, you will advise across different HVDC developments, technologies and project phases – helping clients make critical engineering and investment decisions.
You will join a specialist international environment with significant ambitions in HVDC and offshore transmission, alongside experienced power system experts and with the opportunity to influence how future grid infrastructure is developed.
If you have built your career around HVDC and are ready to use that expertise across a broader portfolio of international projects, apply within or contact Turner Lovell for a confidential discussion.
