Introduction:
Lead Engineer | Automation & Advanced Manufacturing
At Marand Precision Engineering, you’ll work on engineering challenges that are anything but ordinary.
Marand is a leading Australian engineering and advanced manufacturing company, delivering complex equipment, automation, tooling and bespoke solutions for some of the world’s most recognised organisations, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems, BHP and Rio Tinto.
As part of the ASDAM Group, we bring together capabilities across defence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing and sustainment — from design and engineering through to manufacturing, assembly, installation and ongoing support.
Description:
Your new role:
We’re looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to take ownership of the technical delivery of complex engineering projects.
This is a highly influential role where you’ll be the key technical interface between Marand and our customers, turning requirements and challenges into practical, innovative engineering solutions.
You’ll work across mechanical and electrical engineering, automation, pneumatics and hydraulics, collaborating with customers, designers, project teams and manufacturing specialists to deliver solutions that are technically sound, commercially viable and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of mechanical and electrical engineering solutions for automation and complex industrial applications.
- Translate customer requirements into practical, innovative and robust technical solutions.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers, building strong relationships and providing expert engineering guidance.
- Take ownership of technical scope, requirements, budget, risk and quality across engineering projects.
- Lead technical discussions and communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Develop engineering and design schedules and ensure designs meet customer, statutory and internal requirements.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, project management, manufacturing and other functions.
- Produce and review high-quality engineering and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve designs, processes and engineering outcomes.
Skills and Experiences:
About You:
We’re looking for an engineer who combines strong technical capability with the confidence to lead, influence and solve problems.
You’ll ideally have:
- A formal Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification.
- Current professional engineering registration — applicants must be a registered engineer to be considered.
- 5+ years’ experience in a senior engineering role.
- Strong experience with pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems.
- Experience working with dynamic, complex systems in industrial or automated environments.
- A strong solutions-focused mindset and genuine commitment to delivering great outcomes for customers.
- Proven experience managing complex engineering projects and working across multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to take ownership, make sound technical decisions and see projects through from concept to delivery.
Why Marand?
This is your opportunity to work on genuinely challenging engineering projects within an Australian company operating at the forefront of advanced manufacturing and sovereign capability.
You’ll also enjoy:
- An opportunity to work with leading Australian and international customers.
- Interesting, technically challenging projects — no two days are the same.
- A collaborative team environment where your expertise is valued.
- Opportunities for training, development and career progression.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- A social club, monthly BBQs, fresh fruit and healthy snacks.
- Annual wellbeing initiatives and programs.
- The opportunity to be part of the broader ASDAM Group, with exposure to diverse engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
Additional Requirements:
Due to the nature of our work and the requirements of our customers, all applicants may be required to hold Australian citizenship and need to meet ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and/or EAR (Export Administration Regulations) compliance as part of employment eligibility.
Successful applicants may also be required to undergo a current police check, obtain a Commonwealth defence security clearance, and participate in random drug and alcohol screening as part of our commitment to safety and security.
We make employment decisions based on merit, and we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.
Please note that any correspondence in relation to your application will be sent from [email protected].
